1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Spider Touring

1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Spider Touring

According to the manufacturer's plate, this car, corresponds to a Sport Touring spider that left the factory on 7 April 1939 and was delivered to Giovanni Rossi from Florence. In all probability, however, it comes from a 2500 Super Sport coupé built by Touring, and discovered at the end of the 1980s by the Italian collector Corrado Cupellini. At the time it was used at an Italian race course, to signal the start of the horse races. Cupellini decided to return the car to its former glory. Retaining the chassis which has a wheelbase of 2 700 mm, he installed an engine he owned, that came from a 1937 6C 2300 B "Pescara". This was a straight-six twin overhead cam engine belonging to the prestigious line of engines designed by Vittorio Jano that brought the marque so much success in competition during the 1920s and 1930s. Cupellini then gave the car to his coachbuilder in Bergamo, who fitted a spider body inspired by Bianchetti's 2.5-litre competition car that had belonged to him before it went to the US. The result was a well-balanced, elegant and sporty spider that paid tribute to the talent of Italian coachbuilders.
