1947 Ford 1/2 Ton Pickup Truck
Nowadays an integral part of American popular culture, the pickup truck has come to be thought of as the 20th Century equivalent of the cowboy's horse. Once viewed as strictly utilitarian commercial vehicles, they were seized on as ideal candidates for customizing and hot-rodding in the post-war era, and today, like so many fashions that start in the USA, enjoy a cult following worldwide. Having introduced its first pickup in 1917, Ford overtook chief rival Chevrolet. By 1941, Ford had started to modernize its design, but World War II put all that on hold and left the models from that year to be produced, largely unchanged, for the next six years. Upon the end of the war in 1945, Ford ramped up its production of trucks and opted for a newly designed model in 1948, the F1 line, which is when most of the major changes were made. The 1947 model was truly unique to Ford's lineup as it was the final year before the redesign, making this the last and best iteration of the 1941-1947 production run.
