1929 Mercedes-Benz 710 SS Fernandez & Darrin Sport Tourer

1929 Mercedes-Benz 710 SS Fernandez & Darrin Sport Tourer

Completed late in 1929, this 710 SS was shipped as a rolling chassis to the United States where it was displayed at the 1930 New York Auto Show. It was then officially imported into before being shipped back to Europe to be bodied. This work was entrusted to Fernandez & Darrin in Paris, who fitted Sports Tourer coachwork on the Mercedes-Benz chassis. Finished in white with a red leather interior, it was then sent across the Atlantic once more and delivered to its first private owner, a Mr Martin from Washington, DC, in 1932. The car remained in the United States for most of its life and was eventually re-painted black. In 2009, it was acquired by a German enthusiast. He had the car certified by Mercedes-Benz Klassik. More recently, the engine was comprehensively rebuilt.
